A proposal for an international design competition for the new 4,000m2 Design School Zollverein together with associated ‘start factory’ and ‘boarding house’ buildings. These were included within the OMA master plan for the UNESCO Zollverein world heritage site.

The design school and start factory buildings are articulated along a generous promenade and landscape leading onto the Zollverein complex where business, culture and recreation coexist. An energy tower with wind turbine, ventilation stack and photovoltaic panels serves as an iconic marker within the site and entrance beacon for the new campus.
